The banding and layering, which resembles a common bumblebee is caused by inclusions of sulfur (yellow), calcium & Aragonite (white), Orpiment & Realgar (orange), and Pyrite (black). Part of what makes bumblebee jasper special is also its high arsenic and sulfur content. This mineral was only recently discovered in the 1990’s in Papandayan Volcano, West Java Province, Indonesia.

Keep out of reach of pets and children. The bioavailability of the sulfur and arsenic is very low in polished bumblebee jasper, however, it is still advised to wash your hands after handling and to avoid contact with your mouth/eyes. If the stone chips or breaks, please use PPE like gloves or a mask to clean it up and discard any small pieces. You can also choose to put the pieces in a closed jar to enjoy the mineral still, but safely. Do not get the stone wet or clean with water. This increases the bioavailability.
